"'Mother' is the name for god on the lips and hearts of children."
What an incredible thought. Take a moment not to be offended, but instead soak that sentiment in.
To a child that knows nothing more, this is the power a mother holds. We are everything. Their giver of life, their protector, their nurturer, their shelter, their food source... everything.
When did we stop embracing that power?
When did we stop celebrating it?
When did it become something to destroy?
When did we become at odds with those that depend on us for everything?
We control their entire universe yet feel "empowered" when we destroy it. How? And why?
Just because we can?
Because we are bigger and stronger and have the power to do so? As a feminist that sounds awfully familiar.
The power to create and destroy. The power to give life and take it.... I guess that does make us gods, huh? But isn't that everything people hate about God? How He allows evil, and destruction, and death. After every natural disaster, after every school shooting, after every act of terrorism people are always asking where "God" was and why he didn't stop the violence.
Yet, when the violence is suddenly a "woman's right to choose" we are silent in the face of human oppression.
Our ability to destroy another human being simply because they are powerless against our aggression, and can't say no... that will never be a human "right." Because that is the very definition of oppression.
We have so much power.
But how will we use it? For good or evil? To give life or take it?
Violence against human beings - no matter how vulnerable, weak, or unwanted they are - that can never be something that we champion as feminists, or people.
We fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
And because of that, abortion is the human rights violation of our lifetime.
A women's right to choose is a basic right for all of us women. I think what is forgotten here is the pregnancy is violation of bodily autonomy when it is unwanted. Pregnancy puts a woman in a vulnerable position, so we must have the option to control our reproduction. Most abortions occur at 4-6 weeks when the embryo cannot live outside the uterus, it is not sentient, aware, it has no brain no mind. A woman's health interests should come first at the very least until viability which is 22-24 weeks. I my opinion if you are against women making their own choices about whether or not to continue a pregnancy, you are against women's bodily autonomy, without our autonomy we are slaves, and your position does NOT represent me and millions of other women that value their autonomy
ReplyDeleteHow can an unsentiant, unaware, no-brain blob of cells invade your womb if they can not ask for consent to such a thing??? If they come into existence outside of their will???
DeleteYou people will go to any lengths to demonize the youngest of us. You were in the womb once. So was I. How can I say abortion is a right if that same right could have killed me? Killed you? The "age of viability" also gets younger and younger over the years as science advances, so that argument itself is just asinine.
Wake up sister. Millions of women are aborted in the womb every year and millions of women begin to regret their abortion. And millions of women - just like me - are sick of how abortion kills innocent humans and hurts vulnerable women.
The fact that I was in the womb before is irrelevent. My mothers rights came first. Her well being came first. My right were irrelevent I had no say.
DeleteBy elevating an embryo that is not aware, cannot feel, has no desires, has no brain that is the size of appleseed at 5 weeks when most abortions occur, you are subordinating the woman to gestation and being a host against her will if the pregnancy is unwanted. Pregnancy is a life altering and possibly medically challenging condition that should not be FORCED or be FORCED TO have to endure. Women should come first, they are thinking feeling human beings that are self-aware. Please stop with the attacking of the right of a woman to end a pregnancy, it is our bodies, and we should have say over what happens INSide OUR BODIES.
ReplyDeleteYou have every right to have sex or not. Use contraceptives or not. You shouldn't have the right to murder a child. I don't care how you justify it or what you tell yourself. You end a life when you abort a child. Women want so badly to be in control, well be in control of your sexual desire and/or use contraceptives. Double up if you have to. (Please don't talk to me about rape or incest. The percentage of abortions performed due to incest or rape is incredibly low. I'm speaking of all the other abortions taking place as a form of birth control.)
DeleteI have every right to refuse to gestate in addition to all of the other. Woman doing the gestating gets the final say . Her body her uterus.
DeletePlease explain if you are ABORTION PROHIBITIONISTS who want to out law abortion from conception or whatever or more libertarian pro-lifers who think government getting involved ends up with more late term abortions and lots of back alley abortions that kill women. There's a big difference. Being the latter will make you MUCH more acceptable to feminists in general. Being the former just makes you one of the boys.
ReplyDeleteThere really is no reason for any woman in today's medical age to become pregnant if she doesn't want to. Pregnancy as a result of rape or incest (which is most feminists' favorite argument for abortion) is INCREDIBLY RARE. The majority of women seeking abortion today are using it as a form of birth control. 68% of women who had abortions polled said that they felt they had no other choice. This is what may change in our culture. We must help those mothers make better choices and give them the help they need so they don't feel their only option is to murder their children. But if we aren't helping these women, we have no right to say anything to them as they enter or exit an abortion clinic.
ReplyDeleteYou have no right to interfere in private medical decisions period. You have no right to interfere in women's pregnancy decisions.
